5 Reasons I love Lavender

What is your favorite way to destress after a long day?

For me, I enjoy going to bed a little early, turning on a dim light that's on my nightstand and putting on my favorite lavender lotion to relax and decompress. It's not uncommon for Jonathan to come in during this time. I hear him take a deep breathe and shortly after he asks, "Is that lavender I smell?"

Lavender's ability to promote relaxation and improve sleep quality are well known. Studies have been done that have shown that lavender's soothing scent can calm the nervous system, help reduce stress and decrease anxiety but there are so many more benefits to lavender!

Here are five additional reasons why lavender has become a staple in my life for both personal health and the products I create at MI Lavender Farm...and why I started growing lavender in the first place!

1. Natural Pain Relief and Muscle Relaxation

Lavender oil is a potent anti-inflammatory, which makes it an excellent choice for relieving muscle soreness, joint pain, and even headaches. Massaging a lavender-infused lotion or balm onto sore muscles or using a lavender shower steamer in a hot shower can help relieve physical tension and promote relaxation.

2. Skin-Healing Properties for Radiant Skin

Lavender is packed with antioxidants and has antimicrobial properties, making it fantastic for skin health. It can soothe irritation, reduce redness, and help the skin recover from minor cuts, blemishes, and even burns. Lavender also helps balance the skin's natural oils, which is perfect for promoting a clear, radiant complexion. This is one of the reasons I love using lavender in skincare products—it provides a gentle yet effective way to nourish the skin and protect it from environmental stressors.

3. A Natural Way to Support Immune Health

Lavender’s antimicrobial and antioxidant properties make it an ally for boosting immunity. Its ability to combat bacteria and fungi helps reduce the risk of infections. Diffusing lavender essential oil can even help purify indoor air by neutralizing airborne pathogens. For those of us who prioritize natural health, lavender is a powerful, preventive addition to any wellness routine, helping keep germs at bay.

4. Elevates Mood and Boosts Emotional Well-being

There’s something deeply calming about lavender that goes beyond physical relaxation. Studies have shown that lavender has the ability to boost serotonin levels, which can help lift one’s mood and improve overall mental clarity. Lavender’s uplifting scent can also ease feelings of melancholy and improve emotional well-being. On days when I need an extra dose of positivity, a hint of lavender can turn things around, helping me feel more centered and balanced. Or, if you need more than just a hint, come join me in the barn during lavender drying season. Now that is an experience!

5.  Lavender Supports Respiratory Health

Lavender’s natural anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties also make it a wonderful aid for respiratory health. Whether you’re dealing with seasonal allergies, a cold, or general congestion, lavender can help soothe irritated airways and promote easier breathing. Inhaling steam infused with lavender essential oil can provide relief for stuffy noses and sinus discomfort, while its calming scent helps relax the muscles around the respiratory system. Lavender is a gentle yet powerful tool for maintaining clear and comfortable breathing.

Lavender has truly earned its place in my life and in our products at MI Lavender Farm. From promoting restful sleep to enhancing skin health and boosting immunity, lavender’s benefits are vast, natural, and profoundly effective. Whether you’re looking for a natural remedy for relaxation or want to support your overall wellness, lavender is a versatile and beautiful way to add a little more calm and care to your everyday routine.
