Why We Started a Lavender Farm in Northern Michigan
In the heart of Northern Michigan, just outside the village of Posen (home of the Posen Potato Festival), our lavender farm is more than just rows of purple blooms. It’s a place born from resilience, a love for nature, and a deeply personal journey toward health and healing. Our story, like our lavender plants, has taken root after years of searching, learning, and rediscovering what matters most to us: God, family, wellness, and community. Here's how our journey led us to create this special farm.
Our Family’s Journey to Wellness
The journey that brought us here started years ago when our youngest son was born. Early in his life, he faced severe health issues that challenged us as parents and tested our resolve. When traditional doctors were unable to help, I (Sarah) was determined to find ways to help him live a healthy life, which ultimately led me to become a Certified Natural Health Practitioner. This journey not only gave me the knowledge to support our son but also deepened my passion for holistic health and natural remedies. Our son healed.
In 2019, our lives took another unexpected turn. We were living on a small organic, regenerative homestead in Indiana when we discovered that our house had toxic mold. This discovery came after years of wondering why my own health was declining. The mold exposure was impacting my health so severely that there were days when I could only function (be out of bed) for a couple of hours. So, we made the difficult decision to leave behind our homestead, sell the home, and get rid of nearly everything.
Four Years on the Road
Our family packed up into an RV and spent the next four years traveling the country, a decision that gave us both freedom and healing. We saw breathtaking landscapes, met incredible people, and found strength in the simplicity of life on the road. Living in such close quarters also taught us resilience, patience, and the beauty of relying on one another.
As we traveled, our health gradually improved. This time was exactly what we needed but after four years of travel, we felt an urge to put down roots and have community again.
Why Lavender?
Our family co-owned this piece of land just outside of Posen, MI with my parents for a number of years and we've had many wonderful memories from time spent there. As we began thinking and praying about what we could do with that land, lavender seemed like the perfect fit.
Lavender does great with poor, rocky soil...which we have and is deer resistant. Beyond those things, with my background in natural health and my deep connection to the power of plants, lavender held a special appeal. It symbolizes peace, healing, and calm—all qualities that aligned with our journey.
Why Northern Michigan?
Choosing Northern Michigan was a blend of practicality and heart. Northern Michigan felt like home from the moment we arrived. The natural beauty, the welcoming communities, and the tranquil atmosphere all spoke to us. We wanted our family to live surrounded by fresh air, open spaces, and a supportive community—a place where they could explore freely and learn the value of nature and hard work.
From Farm to Skincare
Starting a lavender farm wasn’t just about growing flowers; it was also about sharing what we’ve learned with others. With lavender as our foundation, we wanted to create skincare products that are simple, natural, and beneficial. We believe in the power of nature to heal, and we want to make that accessible to others through our products. Each item we craft—whether it’s a lotion bar or facial serum—comes from our passion for wellness and our commitment to quality.
